Facilities

We have the largest purpose built breeding unit for water voles in the UK. Currently this constitutes over 170 external breeding pens and large internal overwintering facilities. Year on year these facilities breed circa 2 000 water voles for a broad range of projects throughout Britain. We can provide mobile holding facilities for this species where larger numbers are being trapped for translocation projects to other sites elsewhere.

We have a substantial purpose built holding and management facility for Eurasian beavers where families or individuals can be held in transit while individual 2 years can be paired with supervised safety. All works undertaken by this resource are  coordinated by the Beaver Trust.

In addition to the forgoing we have developed in 2024 new bespoke captive breeding facilities

    • White storks for which we undertook and delivered the initial feasibility studies and imports for the Knepp castle estate from Poland .
    • Black storks
    • Adders
    • Turtle Doves
    • Mole Crickets
    • Wild Cats
    • Twites
    • Red Backed Shrikes
    • Black grouse
    • Glowworms

This last species although not directly threatened with extinction is we feel an ideal mascot of our ‘lighting candles’ in the dark concept. The return of the glow worm which is without doubt much reduced in range to shine brightly in regenerated habitats where it can survive once again will kindle hope in the hearts of many for a better future. As time and resources allow, we will expand our facilities and species range to include other restoration candidates such as Dalmatian pelicans and common cranes.

White and Black Storks and Turtle Doves are housed in custom aviaries where we have the facilities to accommodate over 100 doves and dozens of storks.

Our Wild Cat breeding program is based around 10 large screened and naturalistic breeding pens.
